If you’ve just been recently diagnosed with asthma, you might be a little worried about how to use your control medication. After all, your new diagnosis can feel startling and overwhelming, making it difficult to remember all the new medical instructions your doctor just brought up. And if you haven’t been able to work with your doctor to create an asthma plan to remind you, you might have some questions. Like, what is the correct way to handle your SYMBICORT® inhaler (budesonide/formoterol)?

If that’s the case, this article is here to help! So read on to learn more about how you can sync up with your SYMBICORT® inhaler.

Prepare your inhaler.

Before you can use your inhaler, you need to know how to prepare it. To do that, follow these three steps:

  • Remove your inhaler from its foil pouch.
  • Shake the inhaler well for around five seconds and then spray it if you haven’t used it in more than seven days.
  • Repeat the second step.

Make sure you know how to use it properly.

Now, you’re ready to actually use your inhaler. But you do need to make sure you’re using it properly. So try to stick to the following steps when giving yourself asthma medication:

  1. Shake your inhaler well for five seconds.
  2. Squeeze and pull the mouthpiece of the inhaler to remove it.
  3. Breathe out.
  4. Close your lips around the mouthpiece.
  5. Inhale deeply and slowly, and press the top of the inhaler down.
  6. Release the top, and remove the inhaler from your mouth.
  7. Breathe in and out for 10 seconds.
  8. Repeat previous steps for a second time.

Don’t forget to keep it clean too!

Once you’re done using your inhaler, you’ll need to clean it. Proper cleaning will ensure that your inhaler stays germ-free.

It doesn’t even have to take a lot of effort either! All you need to do is remove the mouthpiece of your inhaler and wipe the insides and outsides with a clean, dry cloth.

Stay stocked up.

After you’ve mastered handling your SYMBICORT® inhaler, remember that you only have so much medication inside it. So keep an eye on how much medication you have. When you’re running low, get more for cheap through an international or Canadian pharmacy referral service like Canada Med Stop.

Got all that? Good! Now, you’re ready to stay in sync with your SYMBICORT® inhaler.
