Oxcarbazepine is an anticonvulsant medicine used to treat seizures. The Trileptal brand is intended for adults and children who are at least 4 years old. In combination with other medications, Trileptal can be used for children at least 2 years old.

Measure liquid medicine with dosing device provided. Take extended-release tablet on an empty stomach. Do not stop taking abruptly.

Do not stop taking abruptly. Inform doctor immediately if you notice symptoms of low sodium levels (i.e., nausea, confusion, weakness, more seizures).

Some people experience suicidal thoughts when taking seizure medication.

Get emergency help for serious side effects. This includes: suicidal ideation, suspected allergic reaction, reactions that affect multiple body parts, symptoms of low sodium (see Cautions). Inform your doctor if you experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, hyperactivity, and other mood/behavioral changes.

Common side effects may include: rash, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, balancing issues, double vision, tremors, drowsiness, fatigue.

Oxcarbazepine may make cause drowsiness. Inform doctor before taking opioids, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, anxiety meds, and other seizure meds.
