Description

  • Dorzolamide works by reducing the fluid in the eye, decreasing pressure
  • Dorzolamide is used to treat open-angle glaucoma and other types of problems related to high pressure in the eyes
  • Dorzolamide may have other purposes

Always follow the medication guidelines, your doctor's instructions, and your dosage amount instructions exactly. 

  • Wash hands before use
  • Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid, look upwards and away, squeeze dropper
  • Tilt head down, close eyes for 2-3 minutes, do not blink or squint, press the inside corner of your eye so liquid doesn't drain out of the tear duct
  • Wait at least 5 minutes between drops
  • Wait at least 10 minutes before using other prescribed eye drops
  • Store at room temeperature away from heat, light, and moisture
  • Keep container tightly closed
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible, but if it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose

Cautions

*Always inform your doctor of all known medications, medical conditions, and allergies prior to taking a new drug, including over-the-counter drugs, herbs, supplements, recreational drugs, and vitamins.

General precautions:

  • Do not apply while wearing soft contact lenses
  • Apply 15 minutes before putting on your contact lenses
  • Do not touch your eye with the dropper
  • Do not use your medication if you notice discoloration or particles
  • Risk of serious side effects rises if the dorzolamide gets absorbed into the bloodstream
  • Avoid driving and other activities that may be affected by blurry vision until you know how this medication affects you
  • As with all medications, keep out of reach of children and do not share

Before starting this medication, inform your doctor if you have experienced the following:

  • sulfa drug allergy
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant and/or breastfeeding, or if you plan to

Do not use this medication if you:

  • Are allergic

Cease use and seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

  • An overdose
  • Symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as: hives, itch, breathing difficulties, swollen face/lips/tongue/throat
  • Symptoms of a severe skin reaction, such as: sore throat, burning eyes, fever, skin pain, red/purple rash with blisters and peeling

Cease use and contact your doctor right away if:

  • You experience an eye injury, infection, or surgery
  • Your eyelids swell
  • You are sensitive to light
  • There are symptoms of an eye infection, such as: swelling, discomfort, crusting, drainage, redness

Interactions (inform your doctor if you also take these):

  • Inform your doctor if you use other medications that treat glaucoma, especially oral medication
  • Inform your doctor of all medications you use, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, supplements, and herbs
