Vytorin contains a combination of ezetimibe and simvastatin. This combination medication is used along with a proper diet to help control unhealthy cholesterol. Specifically, it helps to lower bad cholesterol such as "LDL" and "Triglycerides". The Ezetimibe portion of the combination works by reducing your body absorbing the bad cholesterol. Tthe Simvastatin portion works by reducing the amount of cholesterol your liver produces.

Vytorin should be taken as directed by your doctor. In general, Vytorin is typically taken:

• In the evening, with or without food
• You should have frequent blood tests while on this medication.
• Inform your doctor if you get an infection or are injure while on this medication.
• Store at room temeprature.

Before taking Vytorin, be midful of the following:

• Do you have any allergies to Ezetimbe or Simvastatin ?
• Do not use if you are pregnant
• Do not combine with other medications unless instructed by your doctor
• Grapefruit may interact with this medication.
• Avoid Alcohol (it can increase triglyceride levels and increase risk of liver damage)

Get immediate medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction (hives, swelling on lips, tongue, face, or difficulty breathing). Common side effects may include:

• headaches
• muscle pain
• abnormal liver function tests
• cold symtoms (stuffy nose, sneeing, etc)
• diarrhea
